4th-HOL, $66,396, Alw, Opt. Clm. ($80,000), C, 3yo/up, 6 1/2f (AWT) (NTR), 1:13 1/5, ft.
1-- GAYEGO, 122, c, 3, Gilded Time--Devils Lake {SW, $103,785}, by Lost Code. ($32,000 yrl '06 KEESEP). O-Cubanacan Stables; B-Hargus & Sandra Sexton (KY); T-Paulo H Lobo. Lifetime Record: GSW, 9-4-2-0, $763,020.
Margins: 2, 1HF, HF.
Gayego, who set the track record of 1:13 for 6 1/2 furlongs at Santa Anita while winning the Jan. 20 San Pedro S., was looking for his first win since taking the Apr. 12 GII Arkansas Derby. The strapping colt, 17th in the GI Kentucky Derby and 11th in the GI Preakness S., returned from a five-month freshening to be seventh in the Oct. 25 Damascus S. at Santa Anita. The 2-1 second choice was pressed on the early lead through fractions of :21.91 and :44.19. He opened up a clear lead in upper stretch and was not seriously threatened to the wire to finish in track-record time. El Gato Malo (El Corredor), making his first start since winning the May 10 GIII Lone Star Derby, was last in the early going and closed mildly before getting edged for third

Stars of Fasig-Tipton July - 2008

| Hip #441, an Exchange Rate filly out of the Tactical Cat mare Wickedly Wise, sold as the sale topper for $375,000 to Zayat Stables. “I liked the way she was shaped,” said Sobhy Sonbol, who bought the filly on Ahmed Zayat’s behalf, “and she looked like she was very quick on her feet. She's the kind of horse that we look for.” The filly was consigned for owners David and Anne Hanley of Whitechurch Farm in Lexington, KY. |

| Also highlighting Warrendale Sales’ July consignment was hip #269, a handsome colt by up-and-coming sire Medaglia d’Oro out of the Grindstone mare Grandstone. Agent Todd Quast purchased the colt for $200,000, the second-highest price for a colt by the freshman sire.. |
Hip #398, an athletic filly by Harlan’s Holiday out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Song and Danz was also well-received at the sale. Bred on the same cross as GIII winner and GI placed Denis of Cork, the filly was purchased by Dapple Bloodstock for $160,000, the highest priced yearling in the sale by the top-ranked second crop sire.
