Catch A Glimpse Outlegs Males In Penn Mile

Gary Barber, Michael James Ambler, and Windways Farm’s Catch A Glimpse was able to outleg the boys to win Saturday’s Grade 3 Penn Mile at Penn National by 2 1/4 lengths. The 2015 Canadian Horse of the Year, a 3-year-old daughter of City Zip, took the lead out of the gate and never looked back, becoming the first filly to win the Penn Mile and covering a mile on the firm turf in 1:34.39 for trainer Mark Casse.

Still undefeated over the turf, Catch A Glimpse nabbed the lead with a sharp break under Florent Geroux. Through a first quarter in :23.99, the filly led Giant Run by about a length as she relaxed through easy fractions. She was chased by Silent Waters as well as she galloped through a half in :47.96, with Airoforce tracking from well off the pace. Entering the final turn, Catch A Glimpse held onto her lead easily.

A one length lead at the head of the lane quickly became three, then four, as Catch A Glimpse was geared down late under Geroux. Airoforce made a strong late run to cut that margin to 2 1/4 lengths, and Giant Run held on to be third over Silent Waters.

Bred in Kentucky by Branch Equine, Windways Farm purchased Catch A Glimpse for $75,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The filly went on to win the Gr. 2 Natalma at Woodbine, then the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf en route to her Sovereign Ward last year. Undefeated thus far in 2015, Catch A Glimpse has improved her record to seven wins from eight starts, with earnings of $1.23 million.
