Terra’s Angel, Analyze This Jet give Eoff stakes double

Trainer Terry Eoff pulled a notable stakes double at his home track of Retama Park on Saturday night when he won the $75,000 La Senorita with Terra’s Angel and the $75,000 El Joven with Analyze This Jet.

Eoff also co-owns both horses in partnership with friend Johnny Evans. The El Joven and La Senorita are for 2-year-olds at a mile on turf and are the signature races for Retama.

Terra’s Angel ($3.80) stalked the pace from the rail in the La Senorita for fillies, as Another Level controlled the tempo through fractions of 23.19 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.73 for a half-mile and 1:13.19 for six furlongs. Terra’s Angel advanced on the final turn, was angled out into the stretch by jockey Sasha Risenhoover, then pushed past past Another Level.

Terra’s Angel won by 2 1/4 lengths over the pacesetter, while it was another 2 3/4 lengths to Secret Passion in third. Terra’s Angel covered the distance on firm turf in 1:37.77. It was the second La Senorita win for Eoff, who captured the race in 2013 with Sky’s Goldmaker.

Terra’s Angel won the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf in September at the host site of the Breeders’ Cup, although Eoff said last week the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf was not the direction he was thinking for Terra’s Angel, in part because of the depth of the field expected for the Nov. 3 race.

Terra’s Angel, who came into the La Senorita off a sixth-place finish in the Grade 1 Chandelier at Santa Anita, has now won three of five starts. The $45,000 she picked up for the La Senorita pushed her career earnings to $141,765. Terra’s Angel is a daughter of Drosselmeyer. She was bred in Kentucky by Hargus Sexton, Sandra Sexton and Silver Fern Farm.

Terra’s Angel is named for Eoff’s daughter, who died just a few weeks after the filly won her career debut in May at Lone Star Park. Terra was 36.

Analyze This Jet ($18.20) made his turf debut a winning one when he rallied for a 1 1/4-length win in the El Joven. He came into the race off a 6 1/4-length victory in a maiden special weight at a mile at Remington Park.

Lane Luzzi was aboard for both races. Analyze This Jet won the El Joven in a time of 1:38.65. G’s Turf finished second, while it was another 3 1/2 lengths back to Drewcitable in third. Wild Caramelo, the even-money favorite, finished fourth.

Analyze This Jet is a son of Overanalyze and was bred in Kentucky by Jay Goodwin, Al Adams, and Chip Montgomery. The horse has now won two of seven starts and has earned $70,395.
