Malibu Beach came up just a half-length short in her debut at Delaware Aug. 24, but didn’t face the starter again until May 20. The grey filly was a comfortable 3 1/4-length winner as the 2-5 chalk in that Delaware contest, and was the only representative here from her barn after Mani Bhavan (Storm Boot) and Hollywood Hills (City Place) were scratched by trainer Steve Klesaris. Away alertly, the Puglisi colorbearer showed the way through a :22.92 opening quarter while shadowed by Reforestation. That odds-on favorite drew even in front of the stands, but Malibu Beach dug in gamely on the rail and edged ahead late for her first black-type success.

Malibu Beach was consigned by Warrendale Sales at the 2007 Keeneland September Yearling Sale on behalf of breeder Bridle Breezes Farm.
