GSW for sophomore sire (by Pulpit).
A debut second going six panels at the Fair Grounds Dec. 18, Hightap graduated by 9 1/4 lengths when tried around two turns Jan. 17. The grey filly made it two straight, scoring by 2 3/4 lengths going an extended mile down on the Bayou Feb. 21, but came back down to earth when she finished a distant last of seven in the GIII Honeybee S. at Oaklawn Park Mar. 15. Settled in midpack, but never more than three lengths from the front as the field streaked down the backstretch, Hightap advanced outside a rival on the turn, put a head in front of favored Luster entering the final furlong and drove clear. “I had a good trip. It worked out very well,” commented winning jockey Shaun Bridgmohan. “Around the middle of the turn I had a choice, and I saw the favorite in front of me and opted to follow her. When I was ready to move, we went ahead and she finished up really, really strong.”
