Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (gr. IT) winner Catch a Glimpse was honored as Canada’s Horse of the Year for 2015 and her trainer Mark Casse was named outstanding trainer a ninth time when the Sovereign Awards were presented April 8.

More than 270 were in attendance for the 41st annual Sovereign Awards ceremony presented by the Jockey Club of Canada and held at Woodbine Race Track in Toronto, Ontario.

The Sovereign Awards are Canada’s premier awards for Thoroughbred racing and breeding with both the owner and breeder of each Champion horse being recognized with a Sovereign Award trophy for first time winners or a gold Sovereign coin for those who have won a trophy previously.

A daughter of City Zip owned by Gary Barber, Michael Ambler, and Windways Farm, Catch a Glimpse also was honored as champion turf female, and champion 2-year-old filly. Bred in Kentucky by Branch Equine, Catch a Glimpse also won the Natalma Stakes (Can-II) last year and continues in training for 2016.

In winning Canada’s top honor, Catch a Glimpse outpolled champion 3-year-old filly Academic, champion turf male Interpol, and champion 3-year-old male Shaman Ghost.

Among other awards, Outstanding Owner honors went to Sam-Son Farm, Outstanding Breeder was Adena Springs Farm, and named Outstanding Jockey was Eurico Rosa da Silva.

The E.P. Taylor Award of Merit was presented to R.J. (Russell) and Lois Bennett for their longtime involvement and commitment to Thoroughbred Racing in Canada.
