Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Catch a Glimpse leads the list of finalists for the 41st Sovereign Awards released Wednesday by The Jockey Club of Canada.

Trained by Mark Casse, who will be vying for his fifth consecutive Sovereign Award as outstanding trainer, Catch a Glimpse was named a finalist in both the 2-year-old filly and turf female divisions and could be a leading contender for Canadian Horse of the Year. The four finalists for Canadian Horse of the Year will be announced during the Sovereign Awards ceremony April 8 at Woodbine.

Catch a Glimpse prepped for the Breeders’ Cup at Woodbine with a pair of victories on turf, including a win in the Grade 2 Natalma Stakes on Sept. 12. She is joined by Caren, Gamble’s Ghost, and Ami’s Mesa as finalists in the 2-year-old filly division and by Strut the Course, Button Down, and Habibi as finalists in the turf female division.

Two other Breeders’ Cup participants, Riker, who finished sixth in the Juvenile, and Conquest Daddyo, who finished fourth in the Juvenile Turf, were named finalists in the 2-year-old male division, along with Amis Gizmo and Shakhimat.

Owner and breeder Ivan Dalos was rewarded for a strong campaign with three juvenile finalists: Amis Gizmo, Ami’s Mesa, and Gamble’s Ghost. Dalos was named a finalist for outstanding owner, and his Tall Oaks Farm was named a finalist for outstanding breeder. Josie Carroll, who trained Dalos’s three finalists, is a finalist for outstanding trainer along with Casse, Roger Attfield, and Kevin Attard.

Queen’s Plate winner Shaman Ghost and Woodbine Oaks winner Academic are finalists in the 3-year-old male and 3-year-old filly divisions, respectively. Breeders’ Stakes winner Danish Dynaformer, Prince of Wales Stakes winner Breaking Lucky, and Lucky Lindy join Shaman Ghost in the 3-year-old male division, while London Tower, Brooklynsway, and Don’t Leave Me join Academic in the 3-year-old filly division.

Along with Catch a Glimpse, six other horses were named finalists in multiple divisions: Caren (2-year-old filly, female sprinter), Miss Mischief and Cactus Kris (female sprinter, older female), Stacked Deck (male sprinter, older male), Are You Kidding Me (older male, turf male), and Danish Dynaformer (turf male, 3-year-old male).

To be eligible for a Sovereign Award, horses ages 3 and up must have raced in Canada at least three times in 2015, and juveniles must have raced in Canada two times.
